Mouse not recognized due to mouse cable not securely fastened.
Cause:
Mouse cable not securely connected to the base unit.
Solution:
Secure the mouse cable connection to the appropriate port on the base unit.
1) Turn off the computer.
2) Trace the mouse cable to the back of the computer.
3) Do one of the following:
a) If the socket on the end of the mouse cable is a PS/2 style connector, make sure it is inserted into the connector marked 'Mouse' or labeled with a mouse icon. Make sure it is secure.
b) If the socket on the mouse cable is a 9-pin serial connector, make sure it is securely attached to an open COM port (usually COM1). Make sure the screws are snug.
4) Pick up the mouse and turn it over. Make sure the tracking ball moves freely inside its compartment.
5) Turn the computer on and watch for a message indicating that the mouse driver is being loaded during the bootup process.
6) Load an application that uses the mouse.
7) Attempt to use the mouse.
